Person killed, 17 injured, dozens missing in building collapse in India

SANAA, Aug 25 (YPA) – One person was killed and 17 others were injured, and there are fears that 43 people were trapped, after the collapse of a 5-storey building, on Monday evening, in Mahad district, 170 kilometers from Mumbai, the Indian financial capital.
According to the agency, “Xinhua”, Badmashri Baynadi, deputy taxation official in the region, told a local TV news channel: One person died and there are 7 who are currently undergoing treatment in hospital, and 43 others are being searched for.

10 people, who were near the collapsed building, were injured but released from the hospital after first aid for bruises, he said.

An Indian lawmaker said that at least 100 people were trapped under the rubble of a five-story building that collapsed on Monday in an industrial town in western India.

In addition, local MP Bharchat Maruti Gugauli told “Reuters” that the building’s 200 residents were not all inside the building at the time of its collapse.

“I think 100 to 125 people were inside the building at the time it collapsed,” said Gugauli at the scene.

Maharashtra State Police in the west of the country says the building contains about 47 apartments.
