Coalition pushes large forces to Abyan

SANAA, June 24 (YPA) –  The Saudi-Emirati coalition pushed large forces to Abyan, southern Yemen, as fighting reached its peak and Hadi’s forces announced progress, local media reported on Wednesday.

According to the media, troops backed by various types of weapons had come from Aden and entered the city of Zinjibar, the main stronghold of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the province.

Saudi-led Coalition commanders appeared in Abyan next to the leaders of the STC. Nabil Al-Mashwashi, commander of the 3rd Support Brigade is among those leaders.

The City of Zinjibar, the administrative center of Abyan, was attacked at dawn by Hadi’s forces, who stepped up over the past two days as the coalition announced a ceasefire in Abyan that came into effect on Monday evening.

Hadi’s media, quoting military sources, reported progress on the city border after taking control of the Bajadar area.

The commander of the special security forces, Mohammed al-Awban, vowed to bring down Zinjibar within hours after encircling it from all sides.

In the same  context, the Saudi-Emirati coalition claimed that  it has begun deploying military committees to separate the troops in Abyan, considering the step as part of the implementation of the Riyadh agreement.
