Saudi Arabia withdraws its troops in Socotra

SOCOTRA, May 6 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia withdrew its forces to make way for the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) to attack Hadiboh city in Socotra Island.

The withdrawal of the Saudi forces, which committed to protect the city after clashes between the STC militias and Islah militias, based on the agreement between two sides, according to sources.

Last week, clashes erupted between the STC militias and the Saudi-backed Islah militants in the city, which led the Saudi forces to protect the city.

The sources pointed out that Saudi Arabia’s withdrawal from these military points was to pave way for fighting between Socotra residents, and fighters of the STC who arrived in the Island two days ago from Dhalea and Abyan to support the STC militias in the province.
