STC’s militias impose siege on Aden Airport

ADEN, March 16 (YPA) – Militia of the so-called Southern Transitional Council (STC) backed by the UAE on Monday imposed a suffocating siege on Aden Airport, southern Yemen.

Dozens of gunmen affiliated with the STC on board of 20 armored vehicles and military cars led by Abu Hammam al-Yafei surrounded Aden airport controlled by Saudi forces, local sources reported.

The sources indicated that al-Yafei threatened to close Aden airport because of flights from Jordan and Cairo, for fear of entering Coruna virus disease through travelers coming from those countries.

The sources added that the Saudi forces moved their military vehicles to confront the STC militias, but that the airport administration worked to calm the situation between the two parties, and managed to persuade al-Yafei and his gunmen to refrain from closing the airport, provided that the airport would be closed to flights on Tuesday.

Aden airport receives, in one day, five flights of Yemenia Airlines coming from Cairo and Jordan carrying Yemeni citizens on board, at a time all airports of the world countries announced the suspension of flights for fear of spreading Corona virus.

The Ministry of Public Health and Population in the Salvation Government had warned of the doubling of flights to Aden, in an attempt by Saudi-led coalition countries to transfer the Corona virus to Yemen, which had not been infected with any virus.
