FM discusses with WHO launching medical bridge flights
SANAA, Feb. 1 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Saturday discussed with Acting Resident Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Yemen Ihab Khoury the launch of the medical bridge flights for critical illness cases, the first of which is scheduled on February 3.
In the meeting, Sharaf explained that despite the deliberate delay in the launch of the medical flights during the last period, the National Salvation Government was keen to provide all facilities and support to start the program with the Organization in order reduce the humanitarian catastrophe facing patients who need treatment abroad.
The Minister indicated that at the time the government welcomes the start of the medical bridge it affirms that the most effective solution is to reopen Sanaa International Airport to commercial and civil flights for all patients, students and businessmen.
WHO’s acting representative considered the first trip of the medical bridge a start for the first stage, which costs $ 7 million and includes transporting patients to and from Sanaa International Airport as well as the cost of treatment.
