Ethiopia agrees to discuss Renaissance Dam crisis with Egypt in US
ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 31 (YPA) – Ethiopian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Nebiat Getachew on Thursday said that the US Treasury Department has invited Addis Ababa to hold talks with Egypt in the United States on the “Renaissance Dam”.
Getachew announced that his country agreed to take part in a meeting with Egypt to be held on Wednesday in Washington, which would also include Sudan.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry had confirmed that the US invited for a meeting on November 6 in the presence of representatives of the US administration to discuss breaking the deadlock in the negotiations on the Renaissance Dam.
Since 2012, Ethiopia has been carrying out a large-scale project called the “Grand Renaissance Dam” on the Blue Nile, which, according to experts, will result in water shortages in Sudan and Egypt, which are cut by the river after its exit from Ethiopia.
