Islah militias kidnap dozens of civilians in Ataq City of Shabwah

SHABWAH, 12 (YPA) – Human rights activists in Shabwah province, in eastern Yemen, reported that more than 20 civilians were abducted in the past week, following raids and tracing by Saudi-backed forces (Islah party militias)  against those opposed to their presence inside the province.

According to al-Ittihad newspaper, Islah militias have stepped up arrests of civilians, human rights activists, media and soldiers in the Shabwah elite forces backed by UAE occupation in recent days.

The newspaper explained that civilians have been abducted from their homes and through checkpoints set up by Islah militias in several directorates since the invasion of Shabwah in early August, along with the pursuit and prosecution carried out against anyone who opposes its policy.

Local sources in Ataq City confirmed that one of the abductees in Al-Islah prisons at Ataq died as a result of the brutal torture.

The sources noted that some of the abductees are in difficult health conditions and the Islah militias refuse to release them or provide the necessary medical treatment to the detainees.

They further pointed out that there is an initial list of about 100 abductees and detainees held by Islah militias since they invaded Shabwah last August.

However, cases of abductions and other abuses by Muslim Brotherhood militias against Shabwah residents are being documented to expose them to local and international public opinion.
