Death toll in attack on Afghan presidential candidate’s residence rises to 20

SANAA, July 29 (YPA) – The death toll from the attack on the presidential candidate’s residence, Amrullah Saleh, which took place on Sunday evening in Kabul, has risen to 20 dead and 50 wounded, the Afghan channel “Tolo News” reported.

Media reports had previously reported that the attack killed two people and injured 25 others.

The channel said earlier that Amrullah Saleh’s aides were inside his headquarters at the time of the attack, while other sources reported that the attack was carried out by four attackers.

Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said that all the attackers were killed at the site of the bombing and armed attack on the headquarters.

For his part, Kabul’s chief police spokesman, Firdous Faramaz, earlier on Sunday, said that “an explosion (of a car) occurred this afternoon near the Foundation “Rund Spz” in the fourth district of Kabul, and then a number of gunmen stormed the building,”

“The security forces imposed a cordon on the area, and the special operations unit surrounded the attackers, in preparation for their elimination,” he added.
