Tunisian interim president pledges to transfer power constitutionally

TUNISIA, July 25 (YPA) – Acting President of Tunisia Mohamed al-Nasser, Parliament Speaker, on Thursday called on Tunisians for unity and solidarity, pledging to transfer power according to the constitutional.

In a brief press conference, accompanied by Tunisian Prime Minister Yousef Al-Shahed, al-Nasser said that “there is no vacuum in the state institutions,” adding that the transfer of power would be done as provided by the Constitution.

Tunisia’s President Beji Caid Essebsi died on Thursday at age 92, said a statement by the Tunisian Presidency.

According to the Tunisian constitution, the country’s parliament speaker will occupy Essebsi’s former post as acting president for 45 to 90 days until fresh presidential polls can be held.
