Update: Saudis prevent UN’s Lollesgaard from leaving Riyadh
RIYADH, June 27 (YPA) – Saudi authorities on Thursday prevented Chief of United Nations observer mission in Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah, General Michael Lollesgaard, from leaving Riyadh, diplomatic sources told Yemen Press Agency.
“Saudi security at Riyadh airport prevented Lollesgaard from flying to Yemen for the second time in a row on Thursday, after he was prevented from leaving on the morning flight,” the sources said.
UN observer mission’s head is still in the departure lounge at the airport, waiting for the third flight from Riyadh to Yemen, the sources added.
General Lollesgaard had joined with UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths to resume the round of talks that began on Wednesday with a meeting with General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar loyal to Saudi Arabia in Riyadh instead of Hadi, who is currently in Washington on a therapeutic trip.
