Saudi Arabia sends additional reinforcements to Socotra

SOCOTRA, June 23 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia has pushed additional military reinforcements to the Yemeni island of Socotra, local sources reported.

According to the sources, additional military reinforcements of the Saudi forces arrived on the island of Socotra in the past two days.

Saudi forces’ presence on the island of Socotra came following a severe crisis between officials of the coalition-backed government, and the United Arab Emirates, following the recent dispatch of military forces to the island, which ended with a mediation by Riyadh, to further strengthen its military presence there.

The sources confirmed that the reinforcements consist of “armored vehicles, light weapons and ammunition” for the Saudi forces, which are stationed at the airport and port of the island, which has been witnessing tension between Emiratis and their authorities.

It was not ruled out that the Saudis had also pushed additional military personnel, along with the weapons that had reached the island of Socotra, according to observers,

In the past few days, armed militias calling for secession, backed by the UAE-backed security belt have taken control of the gate of the port of Socotra for hours, before reinforcements from the army and security forces drove them out.
