Saudi forces establish new constructions at the port of Sarifat in Mahrah province

MAHRAH, June 2 (YPA) – Local sources reported on Saturday that Saudi occupation forces in the port of Sarifat, in the eastern Yemeni province of Mahrah, are establishing construction sites and buildings at the border outlet, ignoring the explicit refusal of the local residents to allow it.

According to the sources, the Saudis took advantage of the truce they signed with the tribes of Hawf in the holy month of Ramadan, by stepping up its action to entrench themselves even more in the port.

Clashes have reportedly broken out between Saudi soldiers and Yemeni citizens who tried to prevent the construction in the port by Saudi forces, one of the sources said.

The sources noted that there was a noticeable tension between the Saudi soldiers in the port of Sarifat as a result of their growing popular rejection.

The local population came out in peaceful but furious demonstrations a month ago, demanding the departure of the occupying forces who devastated in the tranquility, peace and security of the province.

The protesters threatened to return to the port of Sarifat on the 6th of Shawwal, which is the month after Ramadan, in order to protest until their demands will be met by the Saudis.

Mahrah has been witnessing popular protests and social rejection against Saudi presence in the province, which is seen as an illegal occupation.
