SANAA, May 14 (YPA) – The US Mercy-class military hospital has reached the Gulf waters and is designed to provide emergency and medical care to US combat forces.
The hospital is designated for use in disaster relief support and includes a fully equipped field hospital, a 1000-bed hospital facility, radiation services, a medical laboratory, a pharmacy, an optometry laboratory, a CAT scan and two oxygen production plants.
According to information, the mission of the hospital to serve US forces off the coast of Kuwait.
In 2005, the hospital rescued Americans in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.
In 2010, the hospital carried out another relief mission after the Haiti earthquake.
The Mercy ships are large, contain 1,000 beds and can accommodate up to 200 patients per day, which are stable platforms suitable for providing medical support and performing most surgeries in different conditions.
