Senior union official escapes assassination in Aden

ADEN, April 30 (YPA) – Head of the Yemeni National Bank (YNB) trade union in Aden city survived an assassination attempt near his home in Khor Maksar district Tuesday morning.

Head of trade union of YNB Jalal Bashafei was subjected to an assassination attempt by unidentified gunmen, a few meters away from his home in Khor Maksar, according to Yemen Press Agency correspondent in Aden.

Bashafei was not hurt, while some of damage caused to his car, he added.

On February 5, 2019, Bashafei was arbitrarily detained at Aden airport by gunmen loyal to the UAE-backed security director Shallal Shaya’ after returning from a treatment trip in Egypt. He lasted under arrest for more than two month without being referred to the prosecution and without any charges against him.
