Swarms of locusts invade several areas in northern Yemen

AMRAN, April 27 (YPA) – Swarms of locusts have invaded Amran province coming from Saada border province, in northern Yemen.

Locusts approached the borders of Khamair district from the western side, a source at Desert Locust Control Authority said on Saturday.

The source added that the large quantities of locusts have been observed in the bordering areas of Saada.

One swarm of desert locusts can cover about 1,000 square kilometers of farmland. It could devour 100 thousand tons of plants a day.
