Shura’s Speaker calls UN to pressure for lifting siege, ending aggression on Yemen

SANAA, April 10 (YPA) – Yemeni Shura Council’s Speaker Mohammed Al-Aidarous on Wednesday called on the United Nations to play its role in pressuring Saudi-led coalition countries to lift the siege and end the aggression on Yemen.

This came in the letters al-Aidarous directed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterich and UN Resident Representative Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Lise Grande concerning the oil vessels held by the coalition at sea.

The letters touched on the repeated arbitrary measures of the coalition countries during the past period, particularly with regard to holding of oil derivatives ships for long periods and not allowing them to enter the port of Hodeidah despite obtaining permits from the United Nations.

“Such measures are a violation of Stockholm Agreement that obliges the two parties to facilitate the movement of civilians and goods to and from the city of Hodeidah and its ports,” al-Aidarous said.

He explained that this action by the coalition caused severe crisis in oil derivatives, which would have catastrophic impact on citizens’ daily life and vital service sectors, especially economic, health and environmental areas.
