HRW: Eight Lebanese face unfair trial in UAE prison

SANAA, March 25 (YPA) – The UAE authorities have detained eight Lebanese citizens for more than a year in an unknown location, Human Rights Watch said on Monday.

The international human rights organization  (HRW) said they were being held under ill-treatment and deprivation of legal procedures, while their trial, which began on February 13, 2019, contained with violations.

Relatives of detainees said that they faced charges of “terrorism” and had been held in solitary confinement for long periods, prevented from contacting with their families or to access to legal aid, or access to evidence against them.

The Emirates security forces forced them to sign documents blindfolded, while another said they had forced him to sign a white paper, asserting that “none of them has any known political affiliation, according to the relatives of detainees.
