ADEN, March 17 (YPA) – At least ten people have died of dengue fever and dozens have been infected since the recent outbreak of the disease in the province of Aden, southern Yemen, according to medic sources.
“In the past few weeks, Dengue fever virus caused the death of 10 people and the infection of dozens in Aden, which threatens a new wave of the disease,” a source in the epidemiological surveillance department of the health ministry in Aden told “Al-Araby Al-Jadeed ” newspaper on Sunday.
The source noted that the deterioration of the environmental situation in Aden, which resulted from a rash of sewage in the streets and neighborhoods of the province, is a main cause of the spread of mosquitoes that transmit the disease.
Al-Mansoura district topped the list of Aden districts with the number of infection cases, he added.
The source confirmed that the epidemiological situation “presages an imminent health catastrophe”, calling for raising the state of preparedness in all hospitals and providing necessary medicines and medical solutions to combat the disease.
