SANAA, March 1 (YPA) – The U.S. military command in Africa ( AFRICOM) has announced on Friday that it had killed 26 “Al-Shabaab” militants during an air operation in central Somalia’s Hiiraan province, days after a similar announcement.
The air attack, which took place on Thursday, was the 24th of its kind against al-Shabab movement in the current year, the command said in a statement.
“AFRICOM will continue to cooperate with the Somali administration against al-Shabaab,” the statement read.
Earlier last month, AFRICOM said that the U.S. Troop’s targeted al-Shabaab’s training camp near Shabelle in Hiiraan region being used to launch attacks.
“Estimates indicate that the raid killed 20 terrorists and destroyed a vehicle,” the command added.
In a previous statement issued on February 25 February, AFRICOM confirmed the killing of 35 militants in an airstrike targeting the Somali “al-Shabab” movement, in the center of the country, near the border with Ethiopia.
It further confirmed that the strike occurred a day before the release of the statement, 37 km east of the city of “Beledweyne “, Hiiraan Center.
