Russia submits its draft resolution on Venezuela to UNSC

SANAA, Feb. 28 (YPA) – The spokesman for Russian mission to the UN Fyodor Strzhizhovsky
, announced that Russia, as a dissent to the United States of America, circulated a draft resolution on Venezuela that supports the preservation of the independence and sovereignty of this country and the resolution of the crisis through the Montevideo Mechanism.

“The draft resolution on Venezuela has been distributed,” the spokesman told reporters on Thursday.

The United States, in its draft resolution on Venezuela, proposed on Wednesday to hold new presidential elections in the country and open the door to the introduction of aid to its territory to end the “humanitarian crisis” there.

Venezuela is experiencing a political crisis after National Assembly President Juan Guido declared himself president of the country on Jan. 23.

President Donald Trump acknowledged the leader of the opposition as a transitional president, followed by Canada, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Brazil, Chile, Panama, Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Georgia and Britain.

While President-elect Nicholas Maduro announced that diplomatic relations with Washington had been cut off, accusing it of masterminding a coup attempt against him.

Russia, Turkey, Mexico and Bolivia supported the legitimacy of current President Nicolas Maduro, who began a new six-year term.

Venezuela faces attempts to destabilize the United States by tightening economic and financial sanctions and supporting right-wing forces in a desperate attempt by Washington to revive its plans to dominate the country, which has vast oil wealth and a coup against the legitimate president by using all means, including violence and chaos.
