Update1: 8 fishermen killed, 5 injured in coalition airstrikes on Hodeidah

SANAA, Feb. 13 (YPA) – Spokesman of the Yemeni army Brigadier Yahya Sarei on Wednesday said that eight fishermen were killed, five injured and two others still missing as a result of Saudi-led coalition airstrikes targeted them on Badih Island in Hodeidah province.

“The coalition warplanes targeted the fishermen on the island on Tuesday night,” said Sarei in a press statement. He noted that the rescue teams recovered bodies of eight fishermen and five wounded so far, while two others are still missing.

“The rescue teams were unable to continue searching for the missing as a result of the intense flight of the coalition aircrafts,” the spokesman added.

Sarei confirmed that this crime represents a challenge to the UN resolutions and a new violation of the ceasefire agreement in Hodeidah.

He called on the United Nations and its envoy to Yemen to assume their responsibility to condemn these crimes, holding the coalition forces and their mercenaries responsible for consequences of the crimes.

“As far as our forces abide by UN resolutions and ceasefire in Hodeidah, they will not stand idly by as the aggression coalition continues to target civilians,” the spokesman said.
