MAHRAH, Feb. 7 (YPA) -The announcement made by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) regarding the opening of recruitments for Saudi occupation forces and militias in the eastern Yemeni province of Mahrah has caused widespread outrage among the southern community.
The announcement was seen by southern observers as a clear acknowledgement of support by the STC of highly destructive policies of the Saudis in many parts of occupied southern Yemen.
Some southern Yemeni observers have said the STC’s announcement is “treason” to be added to the record of the Transitional Council, which is “mired in employment for the UAE and Saudi Arabia.”
The leader of the STC, Hani Ben Brik, has been implicated in supporting terrorist cells in Mahrah province, which are carrying out destructive activities serving Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, officials said on Tuesday.
Mahrah has witnessed an unprecedented spread of Saudi forces in the province, which has already triggered a popular uprising against the Saudi military presence. Local tribal coalitions and revolutionary fighters have already been engaging in violent clashes with Saudi and Emirati occupation forces for weeks.
Reports say there is a feverish Saudi-Emirati rivalry for controlling the province at Mahrah, resulting in a near total collapse of security and stability in the province.
