Saudi-backed exiled Hadi plans to divide south into cantons: official

SANAA, Feb. 4 (YPA) –  A so-called political advisor to the Saudi-backed exiled Hadi said on Monday that some southern provinces would be divided into political cantons based on a plan backed by Saudi Arabia.

” Some European experts have expectations that Yemen’s south would be divided into cantons,” Yaseen Makkawi said in an article released by pro-Hadi Aden al-Ghad online news website. Makkawi said that the plan is backed by Saudi Arabia.

He said that Hadramout province is due to be divided into several: desert, valley and coastal regions in accordance to the plan. “There are fears that such plan would more likely thrive terrorist al-Qaida and Daish groups,” he added.
