Sudanese opposition creeps towards presidential palace

SANAA, Jan. 31 (YPA) – The Sudanese professionals association and opposition forces have renewed their calls for mass demonstrations in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, as well as other cities, on Thursday, in order to March on towards government buildings and the presidential palace.

The renewed calls for mass demonstrations comes as part of the “The Largest March” campaign against the government of President Omar al-Bashir.

A joint statement issued by the professionals association, which included university professors, doctors, engineers, teachers and three opposition alliances, set the starting points for the marches in Khartoum and Omdurman, with other crowds gathering in the neighborhoods known for their intense interaction, including Berri area in Khartoum as well as Shambat and Kadro in the north part of the capital.

The Omdurman March is scheduled to start from the Martyrs’ Station, and then head south and eastward towards the presidential palace, while the central Khartoum crowd starts from the Souk al-Sajana and will go north via the Freedom Bridge, Jackson Square and then Freedom Street to the palace, the statement said.

The statement called on the participants in the protests to commit to peaceful protest and make use of banners, loudspeakers and a uniform cheer.
