Human rights organisation calls for investigation into murder and torture in illegal UAE prison camps

SANAA, Jan. 24 (YPA) – Sam international organization for Rights & Liberties has called for an international committee to investigate the execution of 23 forced detainees in prisons run by the UAE occupation in the southern port city of Aden.

The Geneva-based organization, which monitors the human rights situation in Yemen, has called for an investigation into the abhorrent practices of torture against detainees.

In a press release on Wednesday, Sam revealed an urgent complaint, made by a number of detainees in Bir Ahmed prison last Sunday, which was directed to the Interior Minister of the exiled Hadi’s government, Ahmed al-Maisari.

In the complaint, the detainees explained that they had been on an open hunger strike for four weeks.

The detainees said in their letter that the criminal prosecution and other competent authorities in the exiled Hadi government did not carry out their duties in the case of the files of the detainees.

The letter also indicated that some detainees spent three years in prisons or more, without any charges.

The Bir Ahmed prison, a farm rented by the UAE forces in 2016, was transferred to an illegal private detention center which is under control of the coalition-backed invaders.

The complaint submitted to Hadi’s Minister of the Interior indicated that there were 16 soldiers detained in Bir Ahmed prison, who were subjected to various forms of physical and psychological torture, and that there were 23 disappeared persons who had been forcibly concealed in these secret prisons.

The complaint also listed the names of 23 persons who had been executed in the UAE occupation prisons.

Sam called for the release of all abductees and forcibly disappeared persons who are being in prisons and jails in Yemen, as well as the cessation of the systematic policy of torture against them.
