UN denies Saudi-led coalition’s allegation about the resignation of General Patrick Cammaert

SANAA, Jan. 23 (YPA) -The United Nations on Tuesday has denied news claimed by the Saudi-led coalition media, about the alleged resignation of UN General Patrick Cammaert from his post as chairman of the Committee to coordinate the redeployment and monitor the ceasefire in Hodeidah.

Major General Patrick Cammaert, chairman of the Redeployment Coordination Committee, is reportedly still continuing his work, in a contrary to some media reports by coalition forces, a UN spokesman said.

Saudi Arabia’s Al-Arabiya news channel reported that Cammaert had submitted his resignation, according to its New York correspondent’s allegation, that “the United Nations was expecting Major General Patrick Cammaert to step down.” The Saudis also informed the exiled former Yemeni president Hadi of the false news.

Patrick Cammaert leads the committee tasked with monitoring the ceasefire between the parties to the conflict in Hodeidah province on the basis of the Sweden agreement.

The Chairman and his committee were reportedly subjected to intense gunfire by Saudi-backed militants last week in Hodeidah province, during which the UN general was in grave danger but eventually escaped unscathed
