Libya announces killing of al-Qaeda leader
SANAA, Jan. 19 (YPA) – The Libyan army spokesman Col. Ahmed Al-Mesmari announced the killing of senior al-Qaeda leader Abu Talha al-Libi in a “qualitative” operation carried out by the army.
Al-Massmari also confirmed the killing of Mahdi Dungu and Egyptian Abdullah Dessouki in a special operation carried out by the Special Operations Group at dawn on Friday in Al-Shati area in the south-west, following information about the presence of terrorist elements at the site.
The Libyan army forces were able to raid two sites belonging to the leader of the al-Qaeda organization Abdel-Moneim Salim Khalifa Al-Hasnaoui, who was nicknamed Abu Talha al-Libi in the southern Shati area.
A military source from the General Command told Libyan newspaper “Observatory” that the raid took place early on Friday and extended to two neighboring houses, one of which is rented by Abu Talha and is constantly present and the other belongs to his brothers. Abu Talha al-Libi is one of the most prominent Takfiri leaders. He is also one of the founding leaders of the Syrian Nasserite Front, which was active in his ranks until his return to Libya.
