Al-Anad attack is response to coalition continual airstrikes: Army spokesman

SANAA, Jan. 10 (YPA) – Spokesman of the Yemeni army, Brigadier General Yahya Sarie, on Thursday said the drone attack on al-Anad military base in Lahj province came in response to the continuation of Saudi-led coalition airstrikes in targeting innocent citizens.

Earlier in the day, the army’s drone launched an attack at al-Anad military base in Lahj province, southern Yemen, killing and injuring dozens of senior militia leaders loyal to the coalition.

“The attack came after an intelligence operation, during which a gathering of senior leaders of the coalition militias were monitored at al-Anad military base and were targeted by a drone of Qasif-K2 type,” said Sarei in a statement to Yemen News Agency (Saba).

The dead and wounded were evacuated by helicopters to the German Hospital in the neighboring city of Aden, according to the spokesman.

He said “this operation is an inauguration of the new fighting year 2019, which will be the year of victories and unique operations unless the aggression forces and their mercenaries tend to peace and stop their aggression against our country and people.”

General Sarei concluded his statement stressing that the next phase would be tougher for “the invaders and mercenaries, who will gain only shame and terrible defeats.”

“Qasif-K2” drone has recently entered the service. It bursts with fragments from the top to down at a distance of 20 meters, and is able to carry a large quantity of explosives.
