UN: The situation on the ground in Yemen remains extremely fluid

SANAA, Jan. 9 (YPA) – The spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric said that the situation on the ground remains extremely fluid, noting that “Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, however, feels optimistic that the parties (the conflict) remain committed to the Stockholm agreement.”

” The efforts of the UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, as well as the efforts of the various parties, “are oriented towards finding a durable and viable solution in Hodeidah and securing what is necessary to facilitate the arrival and exit of humanitarian aid from the port, ” the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric said in a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

Asked about the obstacles hindering the implementation of all the terms of the Stockholm Accord and the position of the United Nations and its interpretation of the points of disagreement between the parties concerned, he said that Griffiths “is doing everything in its power to bridge that gap. It is essential that we all see the complexity of the issue and the attempt to end a conflict for years. ”

“The agreement reached in Stockholm is important, as it created a space for dialogue that did not exist before Stockholm,” Dujarric said.

As for the criticisms of the details of the agreement, in this context we must take into account the fluidity of the situation and its complexities on the ground in Yemen, and specifically in Hodeidah, he added.

“What I can confirm is that Griffiths is doing everything in his power to reach the desired end, ” he concluded.
