US Official: The full withdrawal of US troops from Syria could take four months

SANAA, Dec. 20 (YPA) – A US administration official disclosed on Thursday the planned time for the full withdrawal of his country’s troops from Syria which is based on US President Donald Trump’s decision on Tuesday.

“The military commanders in the region and those responsible for operations against the ISIS organization have been informed of the decision to withdraw from Syria in the last 24 hours only,” the official told CNN.

“The military commanders are currently reviewing the necessary plans for a quick withdrawal order given,” he said, adding that “these plans are supposed to be ready by end of this month.”

“The full withdrawal of US troops from Syria could take four months, as there is a need to focus on protecting the remaining troops on the ground at the time of withdrawal,” the official said.

The White House said on Wednesday that the US “has begun to return troops to the homeland as it moves to the next stage in this campaign.

These victories over ISIS in Syria do not signal the end of the Global Coalition or its campaign,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sarah said in a statement.

“The United States has begun to repatriate troops from Syria as it moves into a new stage in the campaign against the state organization,”  Sanders added.
