SOCOTRA, March 13 (YPA) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) occupation authorities allocated monthly payments to a number of social figures and members of the local authority and executive offices in Yemen’s Socotra Island, a local official told Yemen Press Agency on Tuesday.
The UAE is trying to buy the loyalty of influential and active figures in the island for small sums of money, not exceeding 500 AED per month, the official said.
The UAE occupation authorities seek to tame as many as possible of the people of Socotra in order to impose its own agenda, which went beyond any forms of the so-called Yemeni legitimacy.
The move comes in light of the UAE expansion in Socotra Island through imposing its national anthem and emblem in the island schools and in many executive offices of the local authorities.
