14 Brazilians killed in deadly bank robbery clashes
SANAA, Dec. 8 (YPA) – The Brazilian authorities have said that at least 14 people, including six hostages, were killed on Friday in clashes between gunmen and police, in an armed robbery against a bank in a small town in the northeast of the country.
Five of the dead hostages were from one family, local media reported.
Most of the victims killed when police opened fire on the robbers at the two bank branches on the main street in Milagres, a small town in north-eastern Brazil, a statement by the governor’s office said.
“Five members of the gang were killed in an exchange of fire, two others died in hospital after they were injured and eighth was shot dead was gunned down in a police pursuit,” the statement read.
“Six people who were held hostage by the gang were also killed in the exchange of gunfire,” the statement said, adding that “the police have arrested three suspects.”
