Al-Mashat meets WFP’s Executive Director

SANAA, Nov. 14 (YPA) – President of the Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, on Wednesday met in Sanaa with the UN World Food Program (WFP) Executive Director, David Beasley, who is currently visiting Yemen to see the humanitarian situation.

The meeting dealt with aspects of the partnership between Yemen and WFP in light of the current exacerbating humanitarian situation in Yemen, especially the food shortage due the war and siege imposed by Saudi-led coalition on the Yemeni people for nearly four years.

In the meeting, the presented pointed out that food security in Yemen is in a dangerous condition as a result of the all-out blockade and halting of Yemeni exports.

“The battles are currently going on in Hodeidah city in the square of food stores and factories and this is a threat to food security,” al-Mashat said.

He thanked the program for its efforts to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni people.

Beasley noted that the program is concerned with food security in Yemen and to provide its food needs.
