Coalition attacks on Hodeidah port primarily affect civilians: EU

SANAA, Nov. 13 (YPA) – The European Union (EU) said on Tuesday that civilians are the most affected by the growing attacks of Saudi-led coalition on the port of Hodeidah in Yemen.

“The attacks on Yemen’s Hodeidah target civilians and infrastructure, and violate the international humanitarian law,” said a statement issued on Monday by High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

The statement warned that besieging Hodeidah and preventing aid access to it would negatively affect most of the Yemeni people, and would exacerbate the famine.

“About 22 million Yemeni citizens need humanitarian assistance, in addition to 14 million of the total population live under the poverty line,” said the statement.

A number of international humanitarian organizations have already warned of the consequences of attacking the port of Hodeidah, as it receives about 70 percent of imports and international aid to Yemen.
