Agriculture calls for urgent assistance to protect crops from rain damage in Dhamar
DHAMAR, Oct. 21 (YPA) – The Agricultural and Irrigation Office in Dhamar province has sent a distress call to protect farmers’ grain crops from rain damage in conjunction with harvest due to the hurricane “Luban”.
The head of the agriculture and irrigation office in Dhammar, Hilal Al-Jashari, said that the rain prevented the completion of the harvesting process, which is usually done at the harvest site, and led to the destruction of large quantities of grain crops of all kinds.
In a distress call to the concerned authorities, the local authority, the local and international organizations concerned with the agriculture sector, Al-Jashari called for providing a number of harvesters, incineration plants and plastic preservatives, to facilitate and expedite crop harvesting and to protect collection and sorting sites for grain and harvested rainwater.
Al-Jashari stressed on the need to move maintaining the production of grain crops, which are the main component of food and the election and storage of seeds for agriculture next season, pointing out that the province of Dhamar is considered the basket of Yemen’s food and filled most of the markets of the Republic with various agricultural crops.
