Martin Griffiths: The world must act urgently to save Yemen from the worst humanitarian crisis

SANAA, Oct. 1 (YPA) – The UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths called for urgent international measures to halt the deterioration of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Griffiths said he was encouraged by the international response to warn the United Nations of looming famine, and said that it had focused on the urgent need for peace talks.

Griffith added that he hoped he would be able to hold another meeting within weeks

The move came during his talk with BBC channel during his presence in New York, after meeting with the main parties in the Yemen war.

Statistics show that 3.5 million people are soon will be added to the eight million others who are already facing the threat of famine.

The devaluation of the Yemeni currency against the dollar in Yemen has led to a sharp rise in prices, worsening what the United Nations sees as the “worst humanitarian crisis in the world.”
