China shuts over 13,000 illegal websites

SANAA, Sept.23 (YPA) – China said that it shut down over 13,000 illegal websites operating since 2015, as part of a three-month campaign against “malicious” online information.

The office for the control of illegal publications has closed more than 4,000 websites and accounts on the internet, imposing internet censorship in China, including pornography, gambling, and rumor-spreading, Reuters reported on Saturday.

The campaign began in May, and the authorities handled 120 infractions and ordered 230 companies to correct internet irregularities.

According to the National Office to combat Pornography and illegal publications, more than 147,000 leaflets containing harmful information were deleted by the end of August.
