SANAA, Sept. 19 (YPA) – Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor on Wednesday met in Sanaa with head of the New York-based International Rescue Committee (IRC), David Miliband, and the UN Resident Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Lise Grande.
During the meeting, they reviewed the tragic humanitarian situation Yemen is currently experiencing as a result of the war and all-out siege imposed on the country by Saudi-led coalition.
The prime minister said that the Yemeni people are subjected to a brutal war and that it needs peace to get out of the current humanitarian tragedy.
“The political solution for us is essential, so we strongly support the UN envoy Martin Griffiths and his efforts towards peace,” Dr. bin Habtoor said.
He stressed that the current humanitarian tragedy can only end with ending the war and siege, bringing peace, and halting the tyranny of Saudi Arabia.
The ICR’s head expressed his satisfaction with what he heard from the commitment of the Salvation Government to peace and the keenness on the success of the UN envoy’s efforts.
Miliband said that the improvement of the humanitarian situation is linked to the political process and the success in reaching a satisfactory agreement for all parties.
He confirmed the continuation of the ICR organization in its activities in Yemen in order to mitigate the people’s suffering.
