Kuwait to hosts GCC senior military meeting

SANAA, Sept. 9 (YPA) – Commanders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries’ armies will meet in Kuwait on Monday ahead of a scheduled meeting on Wednesday with US, Jordanian and Egyptian military officials, a Kuwaiti defense ministry official said on Sunday.

According to AFP website, a source in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense said “ Chief of Staff of the Qatari army will participate in the two meetings.”

The Monday’s meeting will be held in the framework of the 15th session of the Gulf Higher Military Commission, which includes commanders of the GCC armies.

The meeting aims at strengthening cooperation and achieving greater joint military integration, according to a Kuwaiti official.

At the end of last July, Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister, Khaled al-Jarallah, said that his country is considering US proposals to establish a strategic alliance in the Middle East in order to counter Iranian influence in the region.

Last week, Commander of U.S. Central Command, Joseph Votel, toured the region, visiting Gulf states as well as Aden in Yemen.
