SANAA, Sep. 3 (YPA) – The Spanish Ministry of Defense canceled a deal to sell 400 high-precision bombs to Saudi Arabia, according to Al-Jazeera satellite channel.
Last month, Spain announced that it would review the conditions for the sale of Spanish military weapons and equipment to Saudi Arabia and to the participating countries in the Arab Alliance in Yemen.
In a statement issued at the time, the Spanish Foreign Ministry said that Madrid shares the concern of the United Nations against the attacks carried out in Yemen, which resulted in many casualties among the civilian population, noting that this situation “exacerbates the huge humanitarian disaster suffered by this country.”
“The sale of military equipment by Spanish companies to all countries of the region is subject to strict conditions, including assurances from the government of the country to which arms are being supplied that they will not be used outside the territory of that country,” the ministry said in a statement.
The total volume of Spanish arms supplies to Saudi Arabia amounted to about 270.2 million Euros.
In July 2018, Saudi Military Industries Company “SAMI” signed a two-billion-euro contract with Spain’s Navantia for the design and production of 5 22ante Avante frigates for supply to the Saudi Navy.
