FM hands Grande letter from al-Mashat to UN Secretary-General

SANAA, Sep.1 (YPA) – Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf on Saturday handed over the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Lise Grande, a letter from President Mahdi al-Mashat to UN Secretary-General.

In the letter, al-Mashat called on the UN Secretary General to revise his position towards the war launched by Saudi-led coalition on Yemen, which does not live up to the size of the continuous and horrific crimes committed against the Yemeni people.
The letter stressed the need for seriously addressing the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which is the worst in the world.
It called on the UN Security Council to issue a resolution to stop the coalition’s war, lift the siege on the airports and ports, start reconstruction, pay compensations, and form a neutral independent committee to investigate the coalition’s crimes since March 26, 2015.
During the meeting, Sharaf discussed with Grande the efforts of the UN and international organizations to face the humanitarian disaster caused by the Saudi-Emirati coalition in Yemen.
“The coalition has recently not escalated militarily only, it even stepped up its economic war, ” the foreign minister said.
Grande voiced her appreciation for the efforts of the national salvation government to facilitate the work of the UN organizations in Yemen.
