Al-Qaeda attacks military checkpoint in Abyan

ABYAN, Aug. 30 (YPA) – Unknown gunmen believed to belong to al-Qaeda organization attacked on Wednesday evening a military checkpoint of the southern transitional council’s militia loyal to the UAE in Ludar district of Abyan province, southern Yemen.

“Al-Qaeda militants launched a barrage of fire towards the transitional council militia and then clashes broke out between the two sides,” according to Yemen Press Agency’s reporter.

On Tuesday, five members of the so-called security belt militia of the transitional council were killed and three injured in an attack by Al-Qaeda militants on their military post in Ahwar district of the same province.
