CAIRO, Oct. 26 (YPA) – The Egyptian House of Representatives on Monday approved, by a two-thirds majority, a decision authorizing President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to take necessary measures regarding the defense of Saudi territory.
The parliamentary vote comes nearly two weeks after the Egyptian President announced compliance with requests from Saudi Arabia regarding the deployment of Egyptian forces to protect Saudi territory from attacks launched from Yemen, which come in response to the 12-year war and blockade imposed on Yemen by Saudi Arabia.
The potential deployment of Egyptian forces to protect Saudi Arabia has sparked widespread debate among Egyptian political circles due to concerns over entangling the nation in conflict. Numerous political figures and activists have called for prioritizing diplomacy and dialogue to address ongoing issues.
Among those advocating for a diplomatic approach is Al-Azhar, which last week called for the formation of an Arab-Islamic reconciliation committee to resolve regional conflicts. The initiative was welcomed in Sanaa but rejected by Saudi Arabia and its allied Yemeni factions.
