ABUJA, Oct. 18 (YPA) – The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for a terrorist attack on a Nigerian army camp in the Guzamala area of Borno State last Tuesday.
In a statement, the group claimed that 21 soldiers were killed in the assault. Meanwhile, military sources and Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that the attack resulted in the death of 15 soldiers and five members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, with several other soldiers remaining missing.
The attack left the military base leveled and forced troops to withdraw toward the town of Monguno, amid an ongoing escalation of insurgency and armed violence that has plagued the region for years.
