Sanaa FM welcomes Russian, Chinese statements at UN briefing on Yemen

SANAA, Oct. 10 (YPA) – The Sanaa-based ministry of foreign affairs welcomed on Saturday positive points in statements by the Russian and Chinese permanent representatives during the UN Security Council’s briefing by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen on Thursday.

In a statement, the ministry said Sanaa was prepared to keep humanitarian targets, particularly airports and seaports, free from all forms of blockade and attacks.

The statement accused Saudi Arabia of closing Sanaa International Airport and ending the de-escalation phase by striking the airport on July 13 to prevent a humanitarian flight from arriving.

It challenged any party to deny this account and called for corrections to misleading statements by representatives of colonial powers.

The statement clarified imposing a Saudi occupation on Yemen was impossible and unacceptable, regardless of the intensity or consequences of the confrontation.

It added that those who justify continued Saudi airstrikes and missile attacks on Yemeni provinces, while denying Yemen what the ministry described as its legitimate right to respond, share responsibility for crimes against the Yemeni people.

The ministry also defended Yemen’s assertion of sovereignty over its territory and territorial waters, including the Bab al-Mandab Strait. It warned that turning the strait and surrounding areas into a theater of military operations threatened regional security and stability.

Warning that continued military operations in Bab al-Mandab would disrupt trade, the ministry held Saudi Arabia responsible for the potential consequences and urged all parties to recognize the risks.

The statement rejected descriptions of the conflict in Yemen as an internal war, citing Saudi military aggression have continued since March 26, 2015.

It further accused those who legitimize Saudi policies of pursuing a colonial agenda by supporting the imposition of a group of mercenaries based in Riyadh on Yemen’s 40 million people.
