Satellite images show extent of damage to Saudi Aramco’s Abqaiq facility

SANAA, Oct. 08 (YPA) – Satellite images and footage circulated by media outlets on Thursday, captured using infrared imaging technology, showed two fires inside and around Saudi Aramco’s Abqaiq oil facility, amid indications of further damage to the site.

According to the images, one fire appeared at the eastern end of the facility, while the second was visible farther east. Other images showed damage to parts of the facility, including what appeared to be a destroyed fuel storage tank.

The images also showed a dark patch near the damaged area, amid speculation that it could be linked to an oil leak.

The developments came after Saudi oil facilities were targeted by Yemeni missile and drone attacks in recent days, as part of military operations announced by the Sanaa-based forces in response to the war and blockade imposed on Yemen since 2015.

Abqaiq is one of Saudi Arabia’s key oil processing facilities, making any damage to the site or its operations significant given its role in the country’s oil production, processing and exports.
