WASHINGTON, Oct. 02 (YPA) – The US has sent two Patriot missile batteries to the Gulf region in recent weeks to protect oil and gas infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Axios reported, citing sources familiar with matter.
According to Axios, the move is aimed at protecting critical oil and natural gas infrastructure in the two countries.
The deployment is intended to reassure Washington’s allies that the United States will protect their critical energy infrastructure if President Donald Trump decides to resume military action against Iran.
In a related development, the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier and three accompanying destroyers left their port in San Diego earlier this week and are expected to arrive in the Middle East by the end of November.
The Theodore Roosevelt will join the USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington in the region by the end of November, according to Axios.
