US warns its citizens against travel to Middle East amid rising tensions

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (YPA) – The US State Department has issued a fresh security alert for the Middle East, warning Americans of a potentially rapid escalation in regional tensions and possible disruptions to air travel, urging them to exercise extreme caution.

In a statement, it said the security environment in the region “remains complex,” with the possibility of rapid and unexpected escalation. It urged Americans currently in the Middle East to remain cautious and vigilant.

Americans outside the Middle East have been advised to seriously reconsider travel to and through the region and to closely monitor airport and airline operations if they travel.

In a broader warning, the State Department added that US diplomatic facilities, including facilities outside the Middle East, had previously been targeted in attacks.

The State Department also warned of a possible escalation of the “conflict” between Saudi Arabia and Sanaa forces.

It further warned that Iran or “its allies” could target US-linked interests, including US facilities, citizens, companies and institutions around the world.
