New US aircraft carrier prepares for Middle East deployment

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 (YPA) – A new US aircraft carrier is preparing to deploy to the Middle East to replace another vessel recently sent to the region, according to a report by the US Naval Institute (USNI).

The report noted that the USS “Theodore Roosevelt” Carrier Strike Group is expected to depart San Diego on the US West Coast in the coming weeks for a mission lasting over seven months.

The group will replace the USS “George Washington,” which departed from Japan and arrived in the Middle East last week to relieve the USS “Abraham Lincoln.”

Previous reports had highlighted harsh conditions and suicide attempts aboard the Lincoln, which has been deployed since November 2025; however, the Acting Secretary of the US Navy downplayed those accounts at the time.

Meanwhile, the USS Abraham Lincoln is heading to a port in Thailand for a port call next week, providing its crew of approximately 5,000 sailors a period of rest following months of continuous deployment.
