Employees in customs clearance offices in Mahrah go on strike

SANAA, Aug. 9 (YPA) – Employees in the customs clearance offices at Shahen border port with the Sultanate of Oman carried out a strike on Wednesday, local sources told Yemen Press Agency.

The strike resulted in total paralysis due to the increase in customs duties on imported goods, of which 70% of commodity imports pass to the Yemeni markets.

Trucks loaded with various goods were blocked for several days in the port; unable to enter the Mahrah province, and some essential products and equipment were banned to enter Yemen, a close source to the coalition said.

The UAE and Saudi occupation troops, whose run the port, have imposed tariffs on goods imported from Oman, after the visit of the Saudi ambassador and Exiled Haid’s Governor of Mahrah, to the port.

The UAE-Saudi occupation forces control all land and sea ports in the province of Mahrah, including the Al-Ghida airport, and turned it into a military base for the coalition.
